So ,while I was staying in Virginia I had heard a lot of hype about Virginia beach and people from various cities of east coast travel on weekends over here specially the New Yorkers. We stayed at Marriot in Norfolk Downtown(30 mins drive to Virginia Beach) . If you are going from New York/New Jersey the flights are too costly and the drive is 7 hours so most people choose to drive including us. It was a pleasant drive. Since Virginia beach is near the Atlantic ocean we literally were on the sea for 22 miles (Of-course there’s a bridge that long ;)) Well it is a pretty sight from morning till sunset but horrifying in the night since you see nothing on both sides(It’s all dark). As far as the Downtown Norfolk was concerned I went to Waterside Drive for Dinner and there was a Live concert going on which was free. So we spent quite a time enjoying the concert post dinner and walking on the Waterfront at the Waterside. Norfolk is a Naval base with a long history of War. You will see a Warship there which is preserved and you can take a tour as well as some current ship on the dock as well. Waterside has multiple restaurants and downtown has number of clubs you can party at night out of which I went to “Central club” which was great.

Next day, I went to Virginia beach for a day out. But to my disappointment if you are from New York please go to Coney Island or Jersey Shore instead. The beach is dirty with bad crowd. Plus the hotels on the beach are too pricey for nothing. You get a room for $350/night in a good hotel which I would not pay for such a location. There are activities on the beach like surfing, scooter boats, dolphin rides, aquarium and zip lining. The one thing I got interested was a Dolphin ride. But if you are planning to take that ride please be there in the morning or by early afternoon or else you will miss it. Because I was late I couldn’t catch dolphin ride boat and mostly all places were closed. So I sat at the beach and spent some time, walked on the boardwalk and relaxed.

Oh and if you are at Virginia beach don’t forget the Orange crushes from Waterman's Surfside Grille. They are famous here and taste real good. My overall experience was not good. But if you have nowhere left to go. Just go in there for a day.

P.S When on the Beach you can also rent a cycle instead of walking the boardwalk.

Do and Don’t for Virginia Beach:

1) Try the dolphin ride for dolphin views and zip lining.

2) Pre-book hotel rooms to avoid overpaying or rather stay in Norfolk Downtown near the waterside.

3) If driving take the pacific east drive for a beautiful 22 mile ride over the ocean.

4) Don’t forget to dine at Waterside in Norfolk.

5) Don’t fly. Take a drive.

Let me know if you have any questions about Virginia Beach. I will be happy to answer.
